The sun gets down close to the sea water
I feel lonely, I feel panic
After it sets, will it rise again tomorrow?
The sun departs, leaving the sky behind.
The golden rays emitted from the sea water
The birds hunting for food
The sea wind comforts my heart
My mind floating, thinking about my lover.
The waves break, sprinkling out at the crests
They make me happy and forget about my sorrow
The waves fool around with the rocks at the shore
I think about my hands that used to feel you.
I miss you so much, my love
We used to see each other when the sky gets dark
Holding hands on the beach alongside the shore
Affectionally communicate our love.
The sun is already gone, I’m still await
Await for you as we used to meet
Please don’t forget about our love, my darling
Come to meet me after sunset as you’ve promised.
PS: English and Khmer literatures, as you may know, are irrelevantly different. Thus the translation here is just a key point of what the main idea of the poem is about. It may not make much sense when forwarded here, directly from Khmer to English. However, the original poem in Khmer is a very, very good piece of writing. Specifically, it’s much more emotionally touching than what I write above.
